
Moi University’s School of Engineering on Thursday 28th November 2024 held a collaborative meeting with the National Construction Authority (NCA) – Directorate of Research, Business Development & Capacity Building let by General Manager, Dr. Chrispus Ndinyo and Manager, Training & Capacity Building Arch. Juliet Kabere. The meeting was held at NCA Headquarters, KCB Towers in Nairobi. The discussions focused on modalities for joint research and capacity building activities that will lead to improved capacity and capability for safe and innovative construction practices. The following were noted as priority areas: Building Information Management (BIM) in construction projects, Sustainable Construction materials, new construction technologies, non-destructive testing of structural health of buildings and Integrated Disaster and Risk Management (IDRM) and preparedness on construction sites. The Authority has developed the National Construction Research Agenda (NaCRA) to spearhead research in the construction industry and provide local solutions. NaCRA targets partnership framework to allow and encourage research amongst practitioners in the construction industry.
The delegation from Moi University was led by the Dean, School of Engineering, Prof. Eng. Augustine Makokha. Other members were Prof. Eng. Stanley Shitote and Prof. John Githaiga. Representatives from the NCA included QS. Jacqueline Legishon, Eng. Angeline Muthoka and Queenvelly Mayaka. The two institutions agreed to continue with consultative engagements towards developing joint proposals for grant funding.
