The Alumni from the Bachelor of Science Class of 1990 paid a courtesy visit to Moi University on 6th December 2025, marking a memorable homecoming to their alma mater. The team compromised of Dr. Wilson Khaemba, Dr Sifa Mvoi, and Roger Ongosi (from USA), Geoffrey Kiboro (Consolidated Bank), Geoffrey Mulinge(Retired from NSSF), Rita Kavashe (CEO Isuzu), Austin Nyika(IT), Prof. Lucy Rono (Moi University), Prof Victor Kimeli and Prof Maurice Okoth (both at University of Eldoret), and Prof Hellen Waithira (Karatina University). Upon arrival, the group was warmly received by Prof. Ambrose Kiprop, the Director – RMEDIA and Mr. Denzel Opakas from the Moi University Alumni Association Liaison Office and Prof. Mathew Kosgei, Associate Dean of the School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies.
During the visit, the alumni toured several key facilities within the University, including the School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies, the Ngeria Halls of Residence, the Apple and avocado farms, the Margaret Thatcher Library, and the Student Centre. The highlight of the visit was a tree planting session at the Alumni Arboretum, symbolizing their continued commitment to the University’s growth and environmental sustainability agenda.
Later in the evening, the group departed the University and proceeded for dinner at the EKA Hotel, where members shared a cheerful meal as they fondly reminisced about their formative years at the higher education institution.
The dinner was graced by the current Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kiplagat Kotut, who welcomed the group and commended them for maintaining strong ties with their alma mater. He urged the alumni to always acknowledge and promote Moi University, give it the visibility it deserves, and partner with the institution both individually and through their professional networks. He encouraged them to act as ambassadors and “antennae” of Moi University across the globe by bringing back opportunities, collaborations, and innovations to help position the University competitively on the world stage.
Also in attendance was former Dean, Prof. Joseph Koske, who reiterated the Vice-Chancellor’s message and encouraged the alumni to take the University’s requests as their “homework” and ensure they were achieved. He thanked his former students for inviting him to the dinner and expressed his appreciation for the continued bond they had maintained with the University, noting that he looked forward to a more vibrant and engaged alumni community.
The dinner was further honored by the presence of Prof. Justine Irina, former Dean in the School of Science and later Vice-Chancellor of Moi University. Prof. Irina reflected on his journey at Moi University from his early days at the institution and urged for more alumni homecomings as a means of “auditing the systems” and strengthening institutional performance through alumni engagement. He also reminisced on the University’s leadership journey from the tenure of the first Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Douglas Odhiambo, to the current administration.
Prof. Justine Irina urged the alumni to support Moi University and emphasized the importance of proper financial management, strategic planning, and responsible investment. He particularly highlighted the need for investment in Materials, Science and Engineering as a key pillar for sustainability and technological advancement, calling upon the University to position itself as a prime leader in innovation and research.
The visit reaffirmed the strong and enduring bond between Moi University and its alumni and underscored the vital role graduates play in supporting the institution’s development, sustainability, and global recognition.
