Call for Partnership: Climate Finance, Development Cooperation & Investment

The Moi University’s Dynamic Renewable Energy Innovation Park and Green Hydrogen, Ammonia and Fertilizer Research Hub seeks climate finance, development cooperation and strategic investment partnerships to scale integrated renewable energy and green industrial solutions that advance low-carbon development, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth in Kenya and across Africa.

The initiative is aligned with EU Global Gateway priorities, GIZ programmatic approaches, World Bank climate and energy frameworks, and Green Climate Fund (GCF) investment criteria, with a strong focus on transformational impact, country ownership, results-based implementation, and long-term sustainability. It also contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in clean energy, climate action, sustainable industry, and inclusive growth.

Priority Financing Windows

We invite grant financing, concessional finance, blended finance and technical assistance to support the following components:

  1. Renewable Energy Infrastructure Scaling (Solar)
Expansion of grid-integrated and off-grid solar capacity to power research facilities, pilot industrial applications, and surrounding communities—contributing to energy access, system resilience, and emissions reduction, with a targeted deployment exceeding 120 MW of renewable energy capacity across phased implementation.
  2. Green Hydrogen Systems Development
Deployment of renewable-powered electrolysis systems for green hydrogen production, supporting industrial decarbonization, energy storage, and emerging clean energy value chains.
  3. Green Ammonia & Sustainable Fertilizer Pathways
Development of green ammonia production for climate-smart agriculture, strengthening food security, value-chain resilience, and reduced dependence on carbon-intensive fertilizer imports.
  4. Applied Research, Innovation & Demonstration
Investment in applied R&D, pilot plants, and technology demonstration, enabling evidence-based scale-up, policy learning, and private-sector engagement.
  5. Capacity Building, Skills Development & Community Outreach
Targeted human capital development and outreach programs ensuring inclusive
participation, gender-responsive training, technology transfer, and local ownership.

Expected Development & Climate Impact

Partnership support will deliver:

  • Measurable greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, aligned with Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
  • Deployment of over 120 MW of renewable solar energy capacity, improving energy access and system resilience.
  • Green job creation and skills development for youth and professionals.
  • Technology readiness and investment-grade project pipelines.
  • Scalable and replicable models across Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The project is structured to leverage co-financing, strengthen public–private collaboration, and ensure financial, institutional, and environmental sustainability.

Institutional Readiness & Governance

Moi University provides:

  • Strong institutional anchoring within a public university of national and regional relevance.
  • Proven research, training, and implementation capacity.
  • Alignment with national development priorities and climate strategies.
  • Transparent governance structures and results-based monitoring frameworks.
