Moi University on Friday 19th July 2019 hosted Hon. Elmi Mohamed the Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry at the Main Campus. Hon. Mohammed during his address stated that tree planting site would contribute to Climate Change mitigation. The Chief Administrative Secretary was accompanied by Dr Ibrahim Mohammed, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry who urged Universities to play an active role in research and innovation to boost increase in forest cover and influence in the Country. The delegation that accompanied the Chief Administrative Secretary included H.E. Jackson Mandago Governor, Uasin Gishu County, Prof. Julius Gordon Tanui, Ag. Director General, Kenya Water Towers Agencies, Members of the Kenya Forest Service, National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND), Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) among others. The University Management was represented by Prof. Nathan O. Ogechi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) who remarked that the University had so far planted overs 5,000 seedlings and is currently working on signing an MoU with Kenya Forest Service on the 10% cover and also exploring other ways it can partner with the Ministry and the agencies. Prof. Ogechi urged the relevant Government agencies to support the University’s Solid Waste Management Plant.
