3rd AMPATH Partners Summit launched

The Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) launched its 3rd Partners Summit on Monday October 8, 2018, at the Boma Inn Hotel, Eldoret. ampath1

AMPATH is a global partnership of Universities and Medical Centres in North America and Kenya, working together to build smart, holistic and sustainable healthcare systems in Kenya and around the world.
The three-day Summit purposed to retrace the steps of AMPATH from the initial vision to the current dynamics of changing Universal Health Coverage and the pillars of ‘Big Four’ Development Agenda in Kenya.
During the Summit, the importance of strategic partnership between AMPATH and its core partners and Uasin Gishu County was emphasized.
AMPATH’s core partners include Moi University, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and the AMPATH Consortium of more than 12 North American Universities and Health Centres, led by Indiana University.
Students of Moi University College of Health Sciences’ robust Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Dentistry undertake training in curative and preventative health, both through hospital-based medicine and community-oriented approaches.
In the interactive first day session, Dr.  Jeremiah Laktabai, during his presentation, highlighted the detailed steps towards Healthcare and Welfare Integration. Among the Key facilitators on the first day were Prof Robert Einterz, Prof. Adrian Gardner, Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, Dr. Jeremiah Laktabai, Megan Miller, Matthew Turussini, Rose Ayikukwei, Maltida Abwok and Sonak Pastakia.
The Summit’s second day on Tuesday October 9, 2018 included visits to AMPATH Health Centers in Huruma and Turbo, within Uasin Gishu County and thereafter a tour to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Through partnership with AMPATH, students and residents work alongside their North American counterparts, both in Kenya and in North America.
